Many problems not listed on this page can often be resolved simply by uninstalling and (re)installing the latest
build of Port Explorer. It is also recommended that you reboot after uninstalling as well as after installing.
There are no
sockets - all the lists are empty!
Ensure that dcsws2.dll is correctly registered (see next Troubleshooting
question), and ensure that Hide Netstat Sockets isn't turned on (from the
Settings menu).
Port Explorer
displays error message when loading - "Port Explorer was unable to
initialise properly"
dcsws2.dll is not registered. It must reside in your system directory
(Windows 95/98) or system32 directory (Windows NT4/2000/XP), it must be
registered (using regsvr32.exe), and you must reboot after initially registering
it. A required file - sporder.dll - must also reside in the same directory as
dcsws2.dll.
Manually register dcsws2.dll
You can only register dcsws2.dll if it isn't already registered. To ensure
that it is unregistered, please follow Manually unregister dcsws2.dll.
To manually register dcsws2.dll -
- Ensure that sporder.dll and
dcsws2.dll are in the correct Windows system or system32 directory.
- Run this command: regsvr32.exe
dcsws2.dll (you will see a message
informing you if it failed or was successful)
- Reboot
Manually unregister dcsws2.dll
- Ensure that dcsws2.dll is in the correct Windows system or system32
directory. (sporder.dll is not needed to unregister dcsws2.dll)
- Run this command: regsvr32.exe
/u dcsws2.dll (you will see a
message informing you if it failed or was successful)
- Reboot
- After rebooting you will be able to delete dcsws2.dll
I think Port
Explorer may be causing errors/problems on my system, how can I verify the
source of the problem?
It us actually highly unlikely that Port Explorer can cause any errors or
problems of any kind on any Windows systems, and extensive international beta
testing on virtually all Windows platforms in various nations has concluded that
Port Explorer is a highly stable and compatible application that should never
cause any problems or trigger any errors of any kind on your Windows system.
However, it is easy to confirm whether Port Explorer is the cause of any problem
by following this simple procedure:
Keep Port Explorer running for 24 hours or so - do the
errors/problems still occur? One-off errors/problems should be ignored as they
probably aren't caused by Port Explorer anyway. If the problem is still occurring
then uninstall Port Explorer, and continue using your system for another 24
hours. If the problem hasn't gone away, you can be certain the problem isn't
related to Port Explorer as it is no longer on your system. However, if the
problem has gone away, then re-install Port Explorer. If the problem starts
occurring again, it would seem possible that there is an actual problem with
Port Explorer on your system, in which case you should contact portexplorer@diamondcs.com.au
(please include details about which processes are running on your system, which
operating system you're using, and
what steps can be performed to replicate the problem).
I changed the
language in Port Explorer and now I can't get back to English!
The easiest way is to click on the second menu from the right. You'll know
you've selected the correct menu if you see a list of 8 flags - then simply
select the language you wish.
Experienced users can manually change
to English (or other language) by using a registry editor (such as regedit.exe that comes with Windows),
go to the following registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Diamond Computer Systems\Port Explorer
Set the value of Language to 2 for English (as English is the second
language in the menu list). You can change to other languages by setting 1 for
Dutch, 3 for French, 4 for German, 5 for Italian, 6 for Portuguese, 7 for
Spanish, and 8 for Swedish.
Caution:
Registry editing is not advised. We recommend such changes be made by experienced users only.
